May 17,2004

Added SCC 6.7.18 to the download page.  This version is available as an update and as a full installation (118MB) on the download page.  SCC 6.7.18  includes the following changes;

The traverse report now includes an equivalent linear accuracy figure, to reduce the need for Bowditch adjustments. This value is computed by comparing the average observed distances on each leg with the computed join distances for each leg, summing the leg lengths and length differences, and computing the ratio from the result. While this is a comparable figure to a Bowditch linear accuracy, it has the following notable differences;

1)    The linear accuracy reported will typically be less than the Bowditch accuracy for the same data as it is not affected by compensating errors. e.g. a distance that is too short followed by a distance that is too long in a Bowditch adjustment will tend to cancel each other out. This will not be the case with the above computation.

2)    The linear accuracy on a Bowditch adjustment is given as the total traverse length divided by the distance of the provisional value of the closing station to the known value of the closing station. The above figure assumes that each leg is a 'mini-traverse' in itself with known coordinates for stations at either end of the leg. This means that all observations, including cross braces and spur stations, are included in the computation.

The net effect of the above is that if a client specifies a Bowditch linear accuracy, a Bowditch adjustment must be carried out. In other cases, it may be advisable to notify the client that the linear accuracy has been computed as part of a least squares adjustment.

The Leica interface now includes extra fields for Line of Sight offset left and right, parallel offset left and right, and height offset. These offsets had to be created using the extra measurement coding in previous versions.

The status line now shows text details when the model cursor is placed over a piece of text in point select mode

SCC now uses the project station values when computing values the traverse annotation. Previous versions used values from the traverse sheet.

Cutting and pasting text between models was losing the text nodes feature name. This has been fixed.

Elevations were not being displayed in the preview dialog in the feature wizard. This has been fixed.

All text layers now export to DXF with a layer line type of CONTINUOUS

All DXF files are now output with an LTSCALE of 1.0

May 7,2004

Added SCC 6.7.13 to the download page.  This version is available as an update and as a full installation (118MB) on the download page.  SCC 6.7.13  includes the following changes;

Literal and text macro dimensions are no longer repositioned and sized  during standard text edits.  This has the advantage that making string edits will not undo any text positioning and deletion carried out on the same string previously.  To replace the text for any selected points use 'Edit / Text / Redraw String annotation'.
Improved handling of models comprising largely of crossing break-lines.  Previous versions of SCC would not always assert a break-line segment that was the connecting line between two other crossing break-lines.  This has been rectified in 6.7.13.
This version includes the final MWH feature library and symbols

Added an for curvature correction in cross sections, not applied by default. (see Engineering Surveying, W.Schofield, page 468 ISBN 0-7506-0511-1) The correction as applied in SCC computes one centre of gravity for cut and one for fill for each section. If you have multiple areas of cut or fill in a single section, the correction will be incorrect. The instantaneous radius used for curvature is computed from an arc taken through the centre of the current, next and last section, and thus the correction will apply equally well to non circular curves such as transitions.

The least squares network adjustment has been upgraded from a 2d adjustment to a 3D adjustment and now includes support for display of error ellipses and standard deviation computations.
Triangulation speeds for very large hydrographic and similar point models have been improved, typically by about 80%, and the delays in saving models due to model compression have been removed.  On a 1ghz processor point models of 500,000 to 1 million points are typically created at speeds from 10,000 to 20,000 points per second.  Where large numbers of breaklines are present, models of a similar size are created at between 5,000 and 12,000 points per second.
Where a new fly station is created from survey that already exists in the project, an option is now presented allowing the user to store the mean value in the project.
Earthworks cut/fill slope strings may now be generated for limited chainage ranges along the alignment.
Position, orientation, colour, and style of all section title text is now fully user definable, with support for any number of additional user defined title items.
User defined section annotation masks may now be added to sections to add and remove annotation at user defined chainage / offset ranges, for all or selected annotation boxes and surfaces.
Additional section annotation options have been added for slope distance and partial chainage.
Where there is available space, gradient annotation on sections is now placed horizontally.
All section settings that define the display of sections may now be saved into a section drawing style file and applied to other sections.
Profile graphs may now be sub-divided either at specified chainages or regular intervals.
Option added to turn on and off the '+' sign for chainages on section graphs.
The nearest section datum is now a separate field from the horizontal grid interval, and is viewed in section sheet layout.
Interactive picking of points and line segments has been improved, and is no longer based on the triangulation for nearest neighbor determination.
New points added to the model are now guaranteed to have a unique sequential point number in the interests of improved setting out.
This version of SCC also includes  extensive testing and bug fixing.  A full list of bug fixes will be included in the maintenance upgrade cover letter.

Added SCC3.6 beta version to the web site.  This version contains a number of enhancements and bug fixes  to 3.2 beta ;

An additional slope signature string option has been added that allows you to specify a reference line that is used for constructing normals for slope lines.  This allows tidy slope lines to be constructed between angular strings, it is accessed file Edit / Slope Lines / Slope Lines using reference string.

An option to remove unused symbols and feature library entries from the model has been added, this is done via Tools / Purge Model.   To complement this option, the File / Import / Import Symbols from DXF now appends symbols rather than overwriting the entire symbol library.

The Feature, Tag Code, and DTM Code windows in the Add Strings toolbar in the model now work with pre-selection.  For example if you select all the points on a string, and then select Clip Polygon from the DTM Code window, that string will be converted to a clip polygon.

The workspace manager has been extended to allow you to save and load workspaces as required, and to specify whether workspaces are automatically loaded and saved when entering and exiting SCC.  See the sub-menu in File / Workspaces.    N.B.  A workspace contains all the details for which files to open, toolbar positions and settings, keyboard short-cuts and any other customizations you may have made to SCC.

The bug whereby manipulating sheets, symbols and text sometimes required an extra mouse click has been fixed.

The bug whereby the page header on the sections in print and print preview was sometimes been overwritten by the page margin has been fixed.

Added SCC3.2 beta version to the web site.  This version contains a new tool bar and menus for sheet layout and plotting, to access this tool bar use the View / Customize option.  The sheet layout options are made up of two sections, those for creating new sheet layouts, and those for placing and editing them in the model.   The download file provided includes a project with a number of sample sheets.   To create a new sheet use File  / Sheet Layout / Create new sheet template, File  / Sheet Layout /Add title rectangle, and File  / Sheet Layout /Save sheet template.  To place sheets in the model use File  / Sheet Layout /Insert Sheet and the commands below it.  To change to a sheet view use the Sheet Number combo box on the sheet layout toolbar.   Note that files created in 3.2 cannot be opened in 3.1, and that this is still a beta release with one weeks initial testing.
Added a facility to create slope signature strings between any two strings in the model.   Use Edit / Create Slope Strings from the model view.

Tuesday, 13th September

Added SCC 3.1j to the download page.  This option has the following enhancements and fixes;

Better support for AutoCAD 14 DXF entities, including light weight polylines.

Text entities in DXF that have an elevation are now automatically included in the DTM if the text filter is not selected in the DXF input dialog.

Extended remark coding for all data loggers, including support for coding of Tag and DTM codes in the remarks.  Tag codes are coded as .T<Tag>, DTM codes are coded as .M<DTM>.  For example, to create a circular clip polygon from a given survey point of radius 10M, the remark record, following the observation record, in the SDR input file would read .D10.0 .TRADC .MC.  This style of coding will also now work for coordinate based dataloggers, such as GPS receivers, as will strip levels, string offsets, curve and arc fitting..

Improved support for Sokkia dataloggers, SCC now reads and utilises the 00 header record to determine data format.  SDR 22/33 and PowerSET formats are all handled by a single option.

Option to align elevation text such that the decimal point of the elevation lies exactly on the survey point, in both SCC and CAD.  This option can be selected from View / Feature Annotation / Decimal Justify levels.  Note that if this option is selected all text in SCC, and sent to CAD, will be placed in a mono-spaced font.

The bug whereby multiple menus were drawn when an empty workspace was opened has been fixed.  SCC now only saves workspace information if one or more file is open.   If you exit SCC with no files open, the (empty) workspace file is deleted.

The bug whereby the log-file was not always available immediately after re-coordinating data, has been fixed.

Resource files for SCC agents involved in localisation are now available from the download page.
