Installation issues

Q: I have installed SCC on Windows XP or 2000 but it reports that the software lock is not present.  How dow i fix this.

A:  You will need to have SCC v5.0a or later for to use Windows 2000, 6.4.8 or later for Windows XP, and 6.12.0 or later for XP service pack 2.  If you do not have an up to date installation for SCC, it can be obtained from the download page.  Note that you require a current maintenance contract to upgrade to a newer version of SCC.

Q: I cannot print properly from windows through the SCC software lock.

A: Contact support@atlascomputers.ie to upgrade from a parallel software lock to a USB software lock.

Q:    What is the minimum and preferred specification for running SCC release 7 ?

A:    SCC requires a PC with Windows XP, 2000 or 98 R2 with at least 300MB of hard disk space and 256MB of RAM.  In order to use visual basic and java scripting, SCC requires that Internet explorer 4.0 or later is installed.

Q:     I have upgraded from a previous version of SCC to SCC 7 and am getting a message that the HASP software lock is not responding, even though it is plugged in.  How can i fix this ?

A:    From the MSDOS in the \SCC sub-directory type the commands HINSTALL /r followed by HINSTALL /i.  If this does not work contact support@atlascomputers.ie.

Datalogger communications

Q:    My Datalogger won't communicate with my PC, what should i do ?

A:    Ensure that your datalogger is connected to the correct serial port on your machine.  On some machines, serial port numbers are not well marked.   Try using COM1 and COM2 from the File / General options section in SCC.  Some times a serial port may not be available on a given machine, as there may be a mouse or modem driver on that port, if you have two serial ports try both ports.  If you are running SCC on more than one machine try downloading to the other PC to check if it is a PC or datalogger / cable problem.

If you are using AutoGrad or the MOSS Site Measurement Module on the HP95, 100, 200 or 1000 datalogger, ensure that you are running PC-Link v1.7e or later.

If you are using any other data logger, ensure that the PC baud rate / parity / and handshaking match the same values in the data logger.  These parameters are set in SCC using File / General Options.

Q:    My Datalogger downloads data, but it is not being shown in the SCC observations spread sheet.  What should i check ?

A:    Make sure that you have the right model of data logger and parameters selected when you are downloading into SCC.  If you are on maintenance, send a copy of your downloaded data through to us at support@atlascomputers.ie and we will check it out for you.

Q:    My Datalogger downloads ok, and shows detail observations, but does not automatically create a ground model.  Why not ?

A:    This usually indicates a severe error in the input data that would prevent suitable coordinates from being formed.  This is typically due to missing station coordinates.  From the observation spread sheet select 'File / Rebuild Obs from raw data', this will generate a log file showing any such errors.
